Side by side

snpz against Square, at one chair and at three.

The same list of things: their base, a calendar for every chair, texting, a website and their AI assistant. Square is the cheapest number on this whole site and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Three things that will cost you

What actually goes wrong on Square.

And where Square is better than us: Square is the cheapest of the five on this entire site for this same list of things, and it is priced per location rather than per chair, so hiring a barber costs you nothing. The booking site, custom domain and appointment reminders are included from the Free plan up. There is no marketplace and therefore no commission on your clients, ever. The hardware is the best in the trade. If you are on Square Free and the phone genuinely is not a problem for you, staying put is a perfectly sensible answer and we will say so on the call.

Switching off Square

Four steps, and you keep your number.

The easiest export of the five, with one trap worth checking before you press the button.

  1. Export your customers

Square Dashboard → Customers → Customer directory → Directory → Import/Export → Export Customers → All Customers → Export → Download. A real CSV, self-serve, no support ticket, no waiting on a human.

  2. Check for custom fields first

Custom fields are not in that export at all. If your barbers keep notes in a custom field, there is no bulk route out for them from anywhere — tell us before you export so we can plan the manual part. Gift card balances and loyalty points stay on Square's ledger, and card-on-file tokens are never portable from any platform, so every client re-enters a card once.

  3. We ignore the Email Subscription Status column, on purpose

It records a subscription to your Square email marketing. It is not consent for us to text, it is not written consent under Pennsylvania law, and it is not even the same channel. Your clients consent again, properly, and we keep the exact wording, the timestamp and the IP on an append-only record.

  4. Keep Square as your processor

Dropping Appointments does not drop Square. The reader keeps working and your rates do not change — we do not sell hardware, and your phone is the terminal. Cancel Appointments in the dashboard at cycle end, or, if you were on Free, there is nothing to cancel at all.

Ten minutes on your phone, and you'll be looking at a real calendar.

Nothing is charged and nothing is switched off at Square until you say so. Ring the demo number first if you want to hear the receptionist answer before you type anything.
